Well ventilated and painted with lime wash to discourage flies and other bugs. Salted fish, game birds and rabbits were hung here. Soap, candles, preserves pickles and fresh vegetables and herbs were also stored in here.
This was the most important room in the house. Cooking ranges were only just being introduced in the 1820s, but the well-established beehive bread oven would be in daily use. The large wooden table was used by the servants and extended family for main meals.
